Airports in Tenerife
Tenerife is in the fortunate position to have two international airports. This fact, however, has a very tragic background.
For 1977 occurred on until then only airport of the island one of the biggest air disasters. In the collision of two planes into the two machines killed 583 people.
Since this accident was due to safety defects, the airport had to be closed. Due to the fact that Tenerife is an island, then it could only reach by sea, it was so quick and so a replacement will be made as early as 1978 opened a new and greater international Airport, this time in the south of the island.
The Tenerife South Airport
The airport in the south is named Reina Sofia, so the Queen Sofia is devoted. In the southern part of the island there is a very sunny but hot weather, which is like a desert climate. But these are good conditions for pilots. The new airport was in this part of the development of tourism only really possible for a number of new resort areas could now be built, it is therefore not far from the tourist centers on the island.
There are direct flights from there and offered to all major German airports, but also to the smaller, such as Karlsruhe, Münster, Erfurt, Friedrichshafen and Paderborn. The airport is in comparison to the situation in Germany is very small. There is only one international terminal with a information desk.
